SPRING/SUMMER CALENDAR OF EVENTS*

French Day March 28 - Update  Work Day for Adults Only - due to forecast..French activities to be rescheduled.

9:00 am—noon

Join with Sophia Garden members in building pea stakes while

learning French. Farmer Cat and intern Amanda Levine –both

fluent French speakers, will teach the names of vegetables and

basic French greetings. Morning will close with a light lunch of

soup, French cheese, and bread. *Be sure to confirm since we

have had some snow!

 

Spanish Day May 16

9:00 am—noon

Join with Sophia Garden members in building tomato stakes

while learning Spanish. The DeCuba family, Jean Stoddart,

and S. Mary William OP, fluent Spanish speakers, will teach

the names of vegetables and basic Spanish greetings. Morning

will close with a light lunch of gazpacho and bread.

 

Potato Planting/Puppet Day April 18

9:00 am to noon

Join with Sophia Garden members in planting pieces of potatoes

for late-summer/early fall harvest. Children will have the

opportunity to create their own potato head puppets. Morning

will close with some delicious potato treats created by Nicole

Bubulo.

 

Summer Solstice June 20

Begins 9:30 am

Join us for a celebration of the gift of the Sun as we learn the

Salute to the Sun and other yoga postures from our own

Celeste Crockett, long-time garden member and gifted yoga

teacher. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a towel.

 

Earth Day April 22

10:00 am—noon

We live most of our lives in the past or future; rarely in the present

moment. Sister Jeanne will help us to open up to the present

moment in mindfulness and experience the joy and wonder

of that experience. The tools of Sophia Garden that have

worked diligently for us in the past will be given some loving

tender care in preparation for a new season. It will be a morning

of nurturing for all. Bring lunch and eat in the serenity of

the Garden.

 

Garlic Harvest July 3

Begins 9:00am

Gather with Sophia Garden members and others in harvesting

the bounty of garlic from our farm. Learn the history of

Garlic taught by Nicole Bubulo. Finish with tasty garlic

treats!

 

 

A Sense of Wonder April 26

Reserved Seats $30 4:00 pm—7:00 pm

Help raise funds for Homecoming while enjoying the professional

production and one-woman show starring Kaiulani Lee

based on the writings and life of Rachel Carson, author of Silent

Spring. Co-sponsored with the Office of Mission at Molloy College,

the event will be held at The Hays Theatre at Molloy College.

Participate in a discussion with the actress and enjoy an

the new farmer, interns and members. Coffee & tea will be provided.

Summer Fun for Children July 13-17

Ages 6-12 Cost $125 9:00 am –noon

Children connect to soil and seeds as they learn how vegetables

grow. We will share stories, sing songs and make new

friends as we experience our one-ness with creation. The

children will experience hands-on planting, and express

themselves creatively through art. A delicious organic lunch

will be served. For the children who have previously attended

before, there will be new experiences.

Summer Fun for Adults August 9

9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Ever wonder what the children are learning at Sophia Garden

programs? You know how excited they become and how

much they enjoy spending time in the garden with Sister

Jeanne and Sister Joyce. Spend a day with other adults who

are learning the Universe Story together. Connect to soil and

seeds. Share stories, sing songs, and make new friends as we

experience our Oneness with Creation. A delicious organic

lunch will be served using vegetables from the garden.

 

 

A Harvest Homecoming August 22

S. Jeanne Clark’s Golden Jubilee 1:00 pm– 6:00 pm

Reserved Seats $30/Table $275

Join us for a wonderful afternoon honoring Homecoming’s

founder S. Jeanne Clark on her Golden Jubilee as a Sister of

St. Dominic. We will start with a gathering in the garden followed

by a dinner dance in Helen Butler Hall and includes

Sophia Garden’s famous Chinese Auction.
